2023 SEASON
Welcome to Grand Ledge Area Youth Football & Cheer!
GLAYF & GLAYC is a completely volunteer ran organization. All parents are expected to volunteer to keep the program operating.
Volunteer opportunities include but are not limited to:
- Concessions - for both the GLAYF program and the middle school program. A sign up Genius will be available once schedules are available.
- Chain gang - (3 individuals per game)
- Field setup before game - (1st team of day: flag, trash bags, pop-can collectors, field markers, goal post cushions, concession stand setup, chain gang equipment, bathroom setup, etc)
- Field clean-up after game - (Last team of day: flag, trash bags, pop-can collectors, field markers, goal post cushions, concession stand clean-up, field clean-up both visitor and home, chain gang equipment, bathroom clean-up, etc)
Prior to Season:
Equipment hand out dates will be set for the end of July.
Equipment hand out takes place at Marsh Field off Jenne St. Across from Neff School.

First Week of Football:
Aug 7th - 10th 2023 at 6 pm - 8 pm Mon-Thur
Monday: Check in tables will be at the gate behind St Michaels Church. You can park behind St Michaels Church.
- Check-In table opens @ 5:30 (1st day only) with practice starting at 6PM
- At check-in, you must provide all your signed forms
- 2 completed required forms: (1) MHSAA Physical Form and (2) Concussion Form.
- A current year physical is one given on or after April 15 of the previous school year
- You MUST make a copy of the physical form for your records for participation in other sports
- Your athlete will NOT be allowed to start practice without these forms completed.
Monday - Thursday: (first week of football)
- Practice time: 6:00 to 8:00 PM
- Location: Marsh Field practice area (behind the game field and behind St. Michaels church parking lot)
- Your athlete MUST have: (first 8 hours of football conditioning)
- Helmet
- Cleats
- Mouth guard
- Shirt with last name on the back
- Water
- Kids will be split up by grade level for evaluations to help determine team placement.
- Historically Grand Ledge has had more than one team per grade.
- Team placement is typically announced by the end of the 1st week
- Parent meeting during the 1st week - exact date and time TBD.
The First Week will consist of 8 hours of conditioning without pads. (Helmet, cleats and mouth guard are required)
If your child misses any of this time they must complete that 8 hours by continue into the next week without pads. Only after completing the 8 hours of conditioning are they allowed to put pads on.
2nd Week and after
Practice
- Coaches will determine practice days & times
- Practice will be 4 days per week before school starts and change to 3 days per week when school begins.
- Coaches will determine practice times of 2 hours beginning no earlier than 5:30 PM.
- Towards the end of season when daylight becomes an issue, practices may shorten by 15 minutes.
Games
- All 3rd - 6th grade games are played starting after Labor Day. They are played on Saturdays in Grand Ledge and our neighboring School Districts.

First Two Weeks of Cheer
Aug 14th - 1st day
Cheer practice schedule for the 1st two weeks will be Mon - Wednesday 6:00pm - 8:00pm
On first day of practice, please meet for team assignments at Marsh Field by the concession stand area. (Marsh Field is opposite the Neff school on Jenne Street.)
Two (3) required forms for first day of practice!
No player can participate without the required forms. Absolutely no exceptions!
- MHSAA Physical Form. This form must be signed by a health care provider as well as a parent/guardian AND the participant. A current-year physical is one given on or after April 15th of the current year.
- Concussion Form. This form must be signed by a parent/guardian AND the participant.
- Cheer Pledge and information. Please complete the athlete information form and bring to first practice. Please print the cheer pledge for your athlete to keep.
Parent meeting will take place the 1st week of practice - time TBD.
Traditionally GLAYC has had one team per grade level with the exception of 3rd and 4th with are combined.
Games
- All 3rd - 6th grade games are played starting after Labor Day. They are played on Saturdays in Grand Ledge and our neighboring School Districts.
- Field location can be found here.
- All 7th -8th grade games are played during the week with 7th grade games starting at 4pm and 8th grade games starting at 6:30.
- Locations TBD but in include Grand Ledge and other local Schools
- The 1st season game - TBD
Volunteers & Coaching
Each cheer squad will need a coach and team parent! This is a great opportunity to help and get to know the other parents and girls.

- 3rd / 4th Grade

- 8 Hours of Conditioning before progressive live contact
- Ball Carrying Weight Max: 110 Lbs
- 5th Grade
- Junior Size Football
- 8 Hours of Conditioning before progressive live contact
- Ball Carrying Weight Max: 120 Lbs
- 6th Grade
- Youth Size Football
- 8 Hours of Conditioning before progressive live contact
- Ball Carrying Weight Max: 140 Lbs
